International Society for Trainers & Developers

The Certified Global Professional Program, is the program offered by ISTD governing the granting of the Learning Credits

How can organizations and trainers deliver – and learners receive - the training required to maintain professional memberships, certification or licensing?
How can records of these educational
experiences be effectively
accumulated, updated and transferred?

Learning Credits System was created by the ISTD’s The Certified Global Professional Program to address these questions.

Learning Credit (LC)
  • Provide a standard unit of measurement
  • Quantify training activities by the Approved Providers
  • Accommodate for the diversity of Approved Providers, activities, and purposes of training.

To calculate the Learning credit (LC)

One(LC) equals 15 contact hours of participation in an organized Approved Providers experience, delivered under responsible Approved Providers, capable direction and qualified Approved Provider Instructor and content approved as per the requirements of an industry expert.

Ownership of a The Standard

The International Society for Trainers and Developers (ISTD under its Certified Global Professional Program developed the Learning credit (LC) in 2012 and is the caretaker of the Learning Credit (LC).

ISTD assumes responsibility for refining and disseminating information about the (LC).through its Certified Global Professional Program’s publications and research.

The Learning credit (LC) Created by ISTD may be used by all organizations as an evaluating tool. BUT only Approved Providers that go through the ISTD Approved Provider Accreditation Process and get approved are allowed to provide for the attainment of the ISTD Learning credit (LC).

Recognition of Certified Global Professional Program

To ensure quality in Certified Global Professional Program and to increase consumer confidence in organizations that adhere to the PROFESSIONAL BODIES (PB)/ISTD Standard for Continuing Education and Training, ISTD established its Approved Provider program in 2012. This program recognizes Organizations and Trainers that have proven that their practicing policies, procedures and processes meet all elements of the Professional Bodies (PB)/ISTD Standard.

Not all Continuing Education Units are created equal. The term “CEU” Continuing Education Units is in the public domain and can be used by organizations that are not ISTD Approved Providers. That’s why it is important to look for ISTD Learning credit (LC) so that individuals seeking high quality courses can differentiate between continuing education that has been reviewed by a third party.

ISTD Learning credit (LC) is recognized by learners, instructors, regulators and employers worldwide and can only be awarded by ISTD Approved Providers.

This distinction assures employers, credentialing associations, licensing bodies and others that a learner has completed a quality program that meets the international standard.
